Star Wars RL: Species

The space-faring species in Star Wars are vast and stand as the basis for inclusion in the roguelike. In this article I'll list some of the species players may end up playing as!

The Bothan: A canine-like species that has come to be defined by its sly and opportunistic members. As player characters, a Bothan gains +1 Agility, -1 Technical, and a small bonus to stealth.

The Duros: A species overrun with adventurers and inventors, the Duros have a profound technical ability. As player characters, a Duros gains +2 Technical and -1 Strength.

The Gand: An insect-like species that is shrouded in mystery, the Gand are renowned for their legendary skills as hunters. As player characters, a Gand gains +2 Agility, +2 Technical, -3 Strength, and a small bonus to armor due to their natural chitin.

The Human: Perhaps the most populous space-faring species in the Galaxy, Humans are well-known for their variety and adaptability. As player characters, a Human earns experience slightly faster than other species, but receives no attribute adjustments.

The Jawa: A tiny race of curious tinkerers and tradesmen whom are indigenous to Tatooine. As player characters, a Jawa gains +3 Technical, -2 Strength, -2 Agility, and a small bonus to stealth.

The Mon Calamari: An amphibious species which have gained renown in the Galaxy for accomplishing many impressive fleets, including the construction of massive war vessels. As player characters, a Mon Calamari gains +1 Agility, +1 Technical, and +1 Strength but lose some dodging ability ("fish out of water").

The Rodian: A violent species that has gained infamy in the Galaxy for their deadly skill as assassins and mercenaries. As player characters, a Rodian gains +2 Strength, +2 Agility, -3 Technical, and gain a small bonus chance to critically strike in all forms of combat.

The Sluissi: A half-serpentine species that is famous around the Galaxy for their shipwright abilities. As player characters, a Sluissi gain +1 Technical, -2 Agility, and can use their tails to briefly constrict an enemy in melee range, dealing immense damage.

The Wookie: A tall species that is well-known for their deep codes of honor and immense combat skill. As player characters, a Wookie gains +2 Strength and -1 Agility.

The Zabrak: A horned species which have developed a reputation for their unwavering determination and willpower. As player characters, a Zabrak gains +3 Agility, -2 Strength, -1 Technical, and gain a small bonus to accuracy in all forms of combat.

  1. I like the idea of a Jawa race. They always seem to be ignored in games. Maybe I is their isolation on Tatooine or poor communications skills.

    1. Yeah - I was set on including Jawas from the beginning of this project. I've gone out of my way to include some of the lesser known and underused species (The Gand, Sluissi) and would like to add more of them in the future. I've decided to take a slow approach to them, though. In an expansive universe like Star Wars it would be far too easy to include a ton of species that play mostly the same.
